EMC Absorbers for Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing
EMC Absorbers for Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing
Professional-grade EMC absorbers for electromagnetic compatibility test chambers. Our carbon-loaded pyramidal foam provides broadband RF absorption for pre-compliance testing, FCC certification, and automotive EMC compliance. NRL 8000 fire safety certified. Ships 1-2 days from California.
What Are EMC Absorbers?
EMC absorbers (electromagnetic compatibility absorbers) are specialized RF absorbing materials used to create controlled testing environments for verifying that electronic devices meet EMC standards. These absorbers eliminate reflections and external interference, allowing accurate measurement of radiated emissions and immunity.
Our pyramidal RF absorbers serve as high-performance EMC absorbers, providing the broadband absorption needed for everything from pre-compliance testing to full ANSI C63.4 and CISPR compliance measurements.

EMC Testing Applications
Pre-Compliance Testing
Catch EMC issues early in product development. Our EMC absorbers let you build an in-house pre-compliance lab, saving thousands in external lab fees and accelerating time-to-market.
FCC Certification Testing
Meet FCC Part 15 radiated emission requirements for digital devices. Our absorbers create the controlled environment needed for accurate field strength measurements.
Automotive EMC Compliance
Test automotive components and systems to CISPR 25 standards in semi-anechoic chambers (SAC). Our 8-inch and 12-inch absorbers are ideal for automotive EMC installations.
Medical Device EMC Testing
Ensure medical devices meet IEC 60601-1-2 electromagnetic compatibility requirements. Our fire-rated absorbers satisfy building codes for hospital and laboratory installations.
CE Mark EMC Testing
Achieve EMC compliance for the European market. Our absorbers support EN 55032 (emissions) and EN 55035 (immunity) testing requirements.
Military EMC Testing
Meet MIL-STD-461 requirements for defense and aerospace applications. NRL 8000 certification ensures compliance with military fire safety standards.
EMC Chamber Types
Semi-Anechoic Chamber (SAC)
The most common EMC test environment features absorber on walls and ceiling with a conductive ground plane floor. Used for radiated emissions testing per ANSI C63.4 and CISPR 16.
Fully Anechoic Chamber
Absorber on all six surfaces including the floor (with wire mesh walkway). Required for antenna pattern measurements and immunity testing where ground plane reflections must be eliminated.
EMC Pre-Compliance Lab
A smaller absorber-lined room for in-house testing during product development. Cost-effective alternative to external labs for early-stage EMC troubleshooting.
Why Choose dB Absorber for EMC Testing?
NRL 8000 Fire Safety Certified
Our foam meets U.S. Navy specifications NRL 8000 I, II, and III and ASTM E84 Class A fire ratings. This certification is essential for EMC labs in commercial buildings, universities, and government facilities.
Fast Turnaround
Most EMC absorber suppliers have 6-8 week lead times. We stock all standard sizes and ship within 1-2 business days, getting your EMC chamber operational faster.
Cost-Effective Performance
Carbon-loaded polyurethane foam provides excellent broadband performance at a fraction of the cost of ferrite tiles or hybrid absorbers.
Proven in Professional Labs
Electronics manufacturers, automotive test labs, EMC testing houses, and government facilities trust dB Absorber for compliance-critical testing environments.
Building Your EMC Chamber
Step 1: Determine Your Frequency Range
Identify the lowest frequency you need to test. This determines minimum absorber thickness:
- 1 GHz and up: 4-inch absorbers
- 500 MHz and up: 8-inch absorbers
- 200 MHz and up: 12-inch absorbers
Step 2: Calculate Chamber Size
ANSI C63.4 requires minimum test distances. For a 3-meter chamber with 1-meter absorber on walls, plan approximately 5m x 5m x 5m interior space.
Step 3: Specify Absorber Quantity
Measure wall, ceiling, and (if needed) floor area. Account for absorber base dimensions (24" x 24" tiles) when calculating quantities.
Step 4: Contact Us
Contact our RF engineering team for chamber design assistance and pricing. We can help optimize absorber placement and thickness for your specific EMC testing requirements.
